Hot Flaming Brakes

Well, finally got my vehicle after two weeks but returning home on the 25-mile trip,  I started smelling something hot.  Upon reaching home and after getting out of the vehicle the left front brake was so hot that when I touched it,  my finger got burned.

I called the dealership, then roadside assistance and they sent a tow truck.  The truck arrived finally after twenty minutes.  Watching the driver load the Expedition was not fun for the second time in two weeks but I tried to be as cordial as possible.

While the driver loaded my vehicle onto the truck, I was checking out the tires on the wrecker.  Having been a school bus driver, noticing how the tires looked was embedded in my brain.  The tires all looked slick and one of the double wheel tires on the back was actually flat.  The telltale sign was the dust on the tire.

Having been told that I would be riding to the dealership in the wrecker to pick up a rental car, was now giving me a feeling real anxiety, to say the least.  After taking a deep breath, I got into the passenger side of the wrecker.

The driver started the wrecker and we were on our way.  That wrecker bounced like a bucking bull!  Sitting there and riding, I decided that some prayers were in order.

The driver told me as we were driving to the dealership that there would be an extra forty dollar charge for the tow that the dealership would not pay because of the distance.  I turned and looked at him with a look that said, without uttering a word, there is no way I am paying that.

Evidently, he understood my look because he told me,  “Mam, I will just talk to the dealership.”

I told him, “That is an excellent idea.”

We finally arrived.  The wrecker driver dropped me off at the door and then went and unloaded the Ford Expedition.  When I went inside the young woman at the front desk went to get my loaner vehicle which was a brand new Ford pickup.  She told me that they had fixed the wrong brake on my vehicle.  She then handed me the keys to the loaner truck and I told her, “When my vehicle is fixed,  I need to talk to the manager of the dealership.”

She totally agreed with me.

Driving home my thoughts were on what could have happened and prayers thanking God for His Blessings.
