I Sit & Play

I Sit & Play
I sit down at the piano then begin to play, for how long I do not know.

Trying to be brave while playing each key, and praying my shaking does not show.

The music drowns out the sounds of war outside the door, keeping it from reaching my ears.

Somehow, each musical note reaches my heart and soul making me braver removing my fears.

As soldiers enter the room, I close my eyes letting my fingers float across the keys while I continue playing.

Praying, maybe, just maybe, the music will touch their hearts halting the unecessary slaying.
